How do you know when it’s time to call a plumber and install a new toilet? Here are some signs that you need a toilet replacement!

Constant Clogs

Clogs aren’t uncommon when it comes to toilets. But when they become a common occurrence, like every other day, then you’ve got a problem. When a clogs happen often, it’s less likely due to human nature and more likely due to dated hardware in the toilet. There could be a clog further down your pipes, so have a plumber examine your pipes for you. If they determine that’s not the case, consider a toilet replacement pronto.

Cracks

If you notice puddles of water around your toilet, check your toilet for cracks in the porcelain. The location of the crack will determine if only a repair is needed or if a toilet replacement is the better option. Cracks in your tank aren’t always visible, especially if you have a hairline crack. If you can’t find a crack but there’s water pooling around your toilet, a plumber should come and do a more thorough inspection.

Multiple Repairs

Toilets shouldn’t need constant repairs. If you find yourself regularly calling to get your toilet fixed, consider replacing it instead. Chronic issues with your toilet can cause problems in your home and lead to more money down the drain. Save yourself some money and invest in a new toilet instead.

High Water Bill

If your water bill is extremely high, it might be time to consider a toilet replacement. Older toilets work harder to complete their job, in turn using more water. And a broken toilet, like one that is constantly running, wastes a lot of water as well. If your water bill is unusually high, get your toilet inspected. Installing a new toilet can save you money!

Excessive Age

Even if your toilet is a little old, it may still do the job. But as we mentioned previously, older toilets often suffer from inefficiency and can cost you more money than necessary. Not to mention that there’s a federal law that states any toilet built before 1994 that holds more than 1.6 gallons per flush must be replaced. So, if you’ve got an aging toilet (at least 20 years old), you should consider retiring it and replacing it with a new model.
